Preliminary testing in 2016 at the University of Washington School of Public Health showed Briotech HOCl had an effective surface kill of 99.999% of coronavirus OC43 in ten minutes or less.

Briotech is a company grounded in rigorous science and we value expertise. We recognize the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the CDC, employs many of the world’s best infectious disease doctors, scientists, and public health specialists. Those experts are a part of a worldwide effort to study and control this Coronavirus outbreak and we’re all learning valuable lessons daily. The CDC shares their information and advice with the public and we at Briotech, listen to them. We think you should too, and so we list their recommendations below. We also offer a description of what we are doing with Briotech HOCl in addition to what the CDC recommends.

From the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Coronavirus pages, accessed 28 Feb 2020:

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

  • Follow the CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.

    • The CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.

    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to  others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

For information about handwashing, see CDC’s Handwashing website

For information specific to healthcare, see CDC’s Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings

These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. The CDC does have specific guidance for travelers.

What we do here at

Here at Briotech we study disinfection closely and we have built an extensive library of very good independent evidence that proves Briotech’s HOCl eradicates several highly-contagious viruses, super bugs, and prions. These include Human Coronaviruses OC43 (via preliminary study at the University of Washington School of Public Health in 2016 which showed a kill of 99.999% in ten minutes or less), MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV, Human Norovirus, Influenza H1N1, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) -16 & -18, MRSA, Enterococcus faecalis (VRE), E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Listeria, and Bacillus spores (including B. subtilis, a model for weaponized anthrax), as well as inactivation of malformed proteins called Prions—the highly-resistant infectious agent known to be responsible for Mad Cow Disease and Chronic Wasting Disease in deer.

From the Chief Medical Officer at Briotech, Dr. Eric Rasmussen, MD, MDM, FACP :
"Briotech has very good, though preliminary, independent evidence that Briotech HOCl eradicates coronavirus as a species thoroughly and quickly. Early testing of Briotech HOCl against coronavirus strain OC43 showed a 99.999% elimination of that coronavirus in 10 minutes. Fortunately, all coronaviruses strains—like SARS, MERS-CoV, OC43, and the current pandemic coronavirus COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2)—are the same family; they are small, enveloped single-stranded RNA viruses and relatively easy to eliminate. The scientists and physicians working with Briotech expect the current pandemic coronavirus will be eradicated just as effectively as OC43, so a 99.999% reduction in ten minutes or less. As soon as we have access to our various independent labs again we’ll rigorously test against this specific coronavirus, COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2), but right now our independent US reference labs are inaccessible."

As scientific, engineering, and medical staff here at Briotech, following is what we’ve personally chosen to do:

  1. We do not use alcohol-based sanitizers. We’ve seen that our HOCl is gentler and yet more effective. We spray our hands every time we wash our hands and throughout the day whenever we think we should.

  2. People touch their faces an average of about 23 times each hour.* Briotech produces both a Topical Skin Spray and an excellent Multi-Surface Sanitizer, so we think periodic sprays of our Multi-Surface Sanitizer may help reduce the transmission of viruses and bacteria from surfaces to your face, and then to your lungs where it can cause infection. It may also reduce the risk we pose to others, including elderly parents and newborn babies. We spray our HOCl on our faces a few times a day. It is a perfect cooling mist that feels good, and we’re told it helps with blemishes.

  3. Briotech holds a Multi-Surface Sanitizer EPA Certification #93108-1 and we’ve been proven very effective. Here at Briotech we are diligent in spraying our desks, phones, keyboards, handles and doorknobs, car interiors, countertops, bathroom surfaces, airplane tray tables and seat belt buckles often. Always be careful when spraying electronic devices and be sure to wipe them down thoroughly with a soft cloth or tissue after 30 seconds or so.

  4. We’re generous in letting our friends and family borrow our HOCl for anything they think might be a risk to them. We all need to support each other over the next few months and some people are more cautious than others.
